Ranger has received many emails on the operation of the new 6 Meter RCI-5054DX Transceiver. Below are posted just a few of them for your reading. We also received and post below, photographs from Gordon West, in his activities using the RCI-5054DX.

I've had my new Ranger 5054 (SN TXXXXXX) for five days now and I can say that it's a keeper. I was able to make friends with it right out of the box....then I read the well written manual. So far, I've worked locally with it ...with a few Es openings thrown in. The output audio is a bit on the high side which is great for SSB DX...I like that. The receive is a bit on the "bass" side but the clarifier takes care of that. The sensitivity and selectivity on SSB is very good & I've noticed no overload with DX adjacent stations. AM/FM work so far out to 100 miles or so, has been quite acceptable....most of the locals who know my FT-847's sound have asked if I've changed mikes...so much for 100 watts vs 25 watts. The only thing I would have liked to see a bit different is the location of the speaker....it would be better on top for mobile work. But, when one has a dish of pearls...one more isn't all that necessary. I've been asked by the UKSMG to share my feelings on/about the 5054 when I return from my vacation/DXpedition to EL 90 & FM 02. I rather suspect that my current contentment with the 5054 will continue. 73, CL

It was a cold July day here in Southern California when QST magazine arrived in the mail. I immediately started thumbing through it to see what was new. There was a new Ten-Tec 6n2 radio as well as a new radio from Ranger Communications, a six meter all mode. Three days later I went ahead and purchased the Ranger radio. It came complete with the microphone and mobile mounting bracket. The majority of controls I found to be very intuitive. I did have to look at the manual to program it's ten memory channel. I connected the Bird watt meter and a dummy load to the radio the output power measured ten watts FM, CW and AM. SSB was over 25 watts output. My measurements of the receiver's performance showed that the radio met or exceeded all the manufacture's specifications. For example the receivers sensitivity on FM was .14uV for 20db of quieting - this is excellent sensitivity. (See manufacturer's specifications at Ranger Communications, Inc. web site.)
Tuesday evening I used the Ranger transceiver to run the California Six Meter Club Single Side Band Net (50.150Mhz). We had 22 check-ins that evening, from all over Southern California, everyone gave me a good signal report. The next day, six meters was open on single and double hop sporadic E. I first worked Florida, then Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico and the state of Washington. These were all single side band contacts. I also worked New Mexico on AM (50.400Mhz) and FM (50.300Mhz).
The Ranger is a Taiwanese manufactured transceiver. Its most outstanding feature is its receiver sensitivity and how quiet it is on AM reception. The final and driver stages are series pass transistor modulated for AM. The receiver has an excellent noise blanker and ANL, and a good operating all mode squelch. Sunday morning I used The Ranger transceiver to run the California six meter club's AM Round Table Net (50.400Mhz). We had 12 check-ins that morning from all over Southern California, and everyone liked the high-level AM modulation. Most ham radio stores are selling the Ranger for 299 dollars. It will surprised many old timers as well as new hams, showing what the Six Meter Ranger can do, at this excellent price level.
